3D Printing

The Grapevine Public Library is proud to own 3D printing hardware and software! We have everything you need to create your own projects. Our two printers are open to the public so you can place an order for 3d prints. Create It has a Lulzbot Taz 5 with an upgraded Aerostruder tool head and an Ultimaker S5

What is 3D printing?
3D printing is the process of making a 3D object from a digital file. You can create your own models through software such as Tinkercad (featured below) or use objects created by other people from websites such as Thingiverse.

You can also use our 3D Scanning software to digitize real life objects. 3D scanning is a unique way to create replicas of objects you own and have them 3D printed.  There are limitations to the scanning technology in such forms as objects that are too small, too detailed, and too reflective among other issues that can present errors.  Contact Create It staff for more information.

The following links below are some resources you can use in order to learn more about 3D printing.

Resources:

  • Fusion 360 and Tinkercad
    • This CAD software is simple and accessible for anybody interested in making objects for 3D printing. The software allows you to create and edit 3D model objects and export them for print.
  • Cura
    • This is the software used by our 3D printer. Cura is called a "slicing software" - it takes a 3D model and creates the slices needed for a 3D printer.  You can use the software to get price estimates and better understand the size and details of your print.
  • Thingiverse
    • One of the most popular websites in 3D printing, Thingiverse has over a million and a half free models created and shared by the community. Their selection is diverse and includes everything from practical tools, toys, and unique sculptures.
